Capabilities
Kimetrica’s core capabilities are in the provision of software, data, and training services for non-profit project management. We combine specialist knowledge in the main non-profit sectors -- agriculture, disaster management, education, environment, health, social security, and water and sanitation -- with extensive expertise in all the technical areas of data management.
Software
Kimetrica develops and supports a range of software applications. Our applications are mainly online and we provide the full range of data management services so that our clients only need to worry about getting the job done. Kimetrica’s core capability is in web-service applications, and a successful partnership with a major US-based host allows us to provide very high capacity and reliable data hosting. Depending on client needs and budgets, we can provide dedicated or shared servers. As some of our clients are working in areas of limited connectivity, we also provide standalone software solutions with data synchronization services.
Up to 50 percent of our software development is spent on research and development. Our software engineers are specialized in high-capacity data management systems for project and disaster management, with in-built statistical functionality. Kimetrica’s software engineers include several experts in geostatistical data handling and Geographic Information Systems.
We place a strong emphasis on low-cost software customization and have developed considerable capacity in client software needs assessment, product specification, iterative client-driven design processes and interface customization. These processes are supported by a team of professionals who understand non-profit processes and have practical working experience in the non-profit sector. The after-sales support team helps clients to develop and implement rollout strategies, with specialists in ICT training and in technological change management.
Our interface design team ensures that our applications are simple, multicultural, visually appealing and reflect the clients’ branding and image. In addition to the in-house team, we have an international network of graphic designers for development of iconography, logos, and high quality graphics.
Data Services
For organizations requiring external assessment and monitoring and evaluation services, Kimetrica provides end-to-end solutions. Kimetrica has a team of statistics specialists and data analysts who specialize in the design and implementation of surveys to support project management, including needs assessments, baseline and impact studies, and risk assessments.
Quality control is central to our data services and rigorous controls are built into every step of the design and implementation process, starting with in-built controls in all survey instruments. We have a formal model for enumerator training and field quality control, and have strong expertise in data validation and data-error trapping.
We maintain a rapid deployment capability in much of Sub-Saharan Africa, and have staff specialized in survey logistics. Our current capacity allows simultaneous deployment of 4-5 major household surveys. Kimetrica has deployed survey teams in highly insecure areas in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, and Sudan and has particular expertise in conducting household surveys in volatile and difficult field conditions. Our Nairobi office has the capacity for large volume data entry.
Kimetrica maintains strong in-house data analysis capability with an emphasis on statistical analysis of household data and econometrics. Our team also includes several experts in geospatial data analysis, including geostatistical analysis methods, satellite data interpretation, and network modeling. For large projects, we provide impact simulation modeling services including complex behavioral, health, and market modeling. A network of associates, based in leading US and European universities, provides technical inputs for specialized modeling work.
Training Services
Kimetrica offers training services in all of our core business areas -- project design, monitoring and evaluation, client group management, non-profit finance and supply chain, and disaster management. Our particular expertise is in training in information management in these areas. In addition to core curriculum in these areas, Kimetrica develops custom training topics and courses for clients with specialized needs. We have in-house capacity for multimedia training material development, including video, animation, and interactive learning tools.
Our training services focus on practical “how-to” training for practitioners and are all based on an active learning model, emphasizing individual and group exercises. All the learning areas are supported by computerized simulations of real-life situations. Our in-house trainers and external associates all have practical working experience in the subject area as well as academic qualifications from the top universities and research institutes.
Our training model includes online and offline e-learning as well as classroom training. Classroom training is provided in rented facilities throughout Asia and Africa. Kimetrica can also provide high quality training facilities in Nairobi for groups of up to 20 trainees. Kimetrica also supports strategic planning retreats and workshops.
A unique feature of our training services is that it is linked to capacity and skills gap assessment. Online testing tools allow clients to assess their capacity and identify the key skills areas where training is required, thus ensuring that training is focused on where it is most needed.
Advisory Services
Kimetrica offers advisory services in project design and management, particularly in building Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) systems. While the advisory services are usually linked to the provision of other services (software, data or training), Kimetrica occasionally provides independent advice.
The key areas of advisory expertise are in development of metric systems, focusing on performance metrics and results-based management. Kimetrica can offer advice on contracting of technical services, such as specification of software and training requirements. We also provide advice on rollout and change management strategies for organizations that are adopting new management information and performance measurement systems.
