Rob Rose

Client Relations and Business Development

Rob runs Kimetrica’s US office and is responsible for business development and ensuring that Kimetrica’s clients get what they want. He is a professional geographer with a taste for high-tech Geographic Information Systems and has been working for the last 20 years mainly in Asia, and East and West Africa on the design and implementation of information systems. He has scientific publications on disaster and risk management, river basins, and climate change. While not working for Kimetrica, he can be found flying kites and falcons, a habit he picked up in Afghanistan. Contact Rob on Rob.Rose@kimetrica.org.

Benjamin Watkins

Product Development

Ben is responsible for developing Kimetrica’s products and services and leads the software design team. He has been developing information systems, mainly in Africa and Asia, for the last 15 years. An economist by training, Ben has worked primarily in the agriculture and natural resource sectors, with a focus on poverty alleviation and food security projects. His particular area of expertise is the development of software with analytical and statistical functions. He is fluent in English, Italian and French and has scientific publications on information systems, pastoralism and drought management. Outside the office he goes bowling with his daughter, cooks fresh pasta and reads obscure philosophical texts.

Margaret Mwangi

Product Scoping and Development

Maggie works on developing software and survey tools for Kimetrica. She is an expert in GIS database development but also has keen applied and academic interests in advanced methods for understanding and articulating client needs and in issues of technology adoption. Margaret is also our lead trainer in application deployment and adoption. Maggie has worked with the UN, private sector and NGOs. Maggie has degrees in land surveying and IT. On weekends, she can be found on vertical mountain ascents or white water river descents.

A.H. Shirwa

Somalia Office Manager

Shirwa manages Kimetrica’s Somalia office from our base in Mogadishu. He is responsible for project management, including management services to local NGOs. In addition, Shirwa coordinates our Somalia-based rapid survey and assessment team, which conducts emergency needs assessments, impact surveys and monitoring activities on a contractual basis for donors, NGOs and the UN. Shirwa is the former dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Somali National University and was an adjunct professor at the University of Florence, Italy. Before joining Kimetrica, Shirwa worked for FAO and USAID FEWS Net. He is fluent in Somali, English, Italian and Arabic. When not working (which is rare), he is fond of reading the classics.
